Zumbi dos Palmares International Airport is an international airport serving Maceió, Brazil. It is located in the municipality of Marechal Deodoro, 20 kilometers (12 miles) from the city center. The airport was named after Zumbi dos Palmares, a leader of the Quilombo dos Palmares, a quilombo that existed in Brazil from the 17th to the 19th centuries.
The airport was inaugurated in 1928 and has undergone several renovations and expansions since then. The most recent renovation was completed in 2005, and it expanded the terminal and apron, and extended the runway. The airport is currently operated by AENA, a Spanish airport operator.
